Let’s get one thing straight: Dogs are the best thing on the planet.
They really do deserve the title of ‘man’s best friend’. They’re loyal, intelligent and unpretentious – it’s difficult to find these qualities in humans nowadays. While most of us think of dogs as playmates and that they are good for our mental health, here’s something you probably didn’t know: That a dog sleeping beside (or on) your bed can teach you some pretty amazing and important life lessons.
Here’s a surprising list of life lessons you can learn from your four-legged buddy.
Let go of the past and live in the moment
Ever stepped on your dog’s feet and noticed that ‘Et tu, Brute?’ expression on his face? It only lasts for about 5 minutes and then he’s ready to play fetch again. Dogs do remember things like ‘where the treats are kept’ and ‘what road does that other dog live on’ but they only access all that information when they need it — in the moment! They don’t dwell in the past, and you shouldn’t either.
Love everybody
Dogs never discriminate based on colour, caste, gender or sexuality. Their tails wag for everybody and by the looks of it, they’re pretty with the whole ‘love everybody’ situation, so why shouldn’t you do the same?!
Loyalty is important
Dogs are fiercely loyal and would do anything for their owners. Shouldn’t you be loyal and show the same intense loyalty and love in your relationships too?
Focus on the journey, not the destination
Ever seen a dog in a car? They stick their heads out and enjoy the journey even though they have no idea where they’re going! Similarly, it’s good to set goals but you need to focus on the now and be open to other possibilities if your goals aren’t met!
Love unconditionally
Dogs will wag their tails whenever they see you- no matter what mood they are in. They’re ready to love you back even if you’ve just shouted at them. That’s what unconditional love is all about- loving people with everything you’ve got! The world around you would be so much better if you learned to let go and spread the love!
Don’t overthink things
While it’s good to give things an initial thought- don’t keep thinking about it for days and months. Dogs are pretty much unfazed by everything- they don’t fear looking clumsy, don’t fear awkward conversations or about getting into trouble! Just do you- that’s how you should be living life anyway.
Time to give that doggo a big thank-you hug for teaching you so much!
