Huangluo village in south-west China is home to the Yao community, whose women are known for their long Rapunzel-like locks. This village also holds the Guinness World Record for being the ‘world’s longest hair village’. Sounds like a dream. Right? Well, the hair of Yao community women can grow as long as 7 feet and what is more surprising is the fact that their hair is free of greys even post 80 years of age.

Ironically, the women are allowed to cut their hair only once in their lives — on 18th birthday. The hair is cut to ear-length which signifies that the woman is ready to get married and is looking for a partner. But instead of throwing away the chopped hair, it is preserved and is gifted to the girl once she is married only to be worn as a headgear.
