A gorgeous model, Renee Kujur, from Chhattisgarh has taken the internet by storm for her uncanny resemblance to international pop-star, Rihanna.
But she achieved fame, Kujur was ridiculed for her dark complexion. For instance, at the age of three, she dressed as a fairy in a fancy dress competition in her school. As she stepped on the stage, some shouted — ‘Dekho dekho kaali pari (look, a black fairy)’, and everybody in the auditorium started laughing. And Renee left the stage sobbing.
This was not the only time she had to face taunts because of her appearance. Even during her modelling stint, she had often been asked to put-on makeup to lighten her skin tone by 3-4 shades or photoshop her pictures, as she told Hindustan Times.
They would say things like, “Sundar ladki ka makeup toh koi bhi kar sakta hai. The real challenge is to make a dark girl look good and I have done it,” said Renee.
It was a friend of Renee’s who noticed that she bore a striking resemblance to the Barbadian singer Rihanna. “I laughed off the Rihanna part. But soon everyone was saying the same thing,” said Renee.
The resemblance made it easier for her to get work.
“Photogs would tell their clients that I resemble Rihanna. That way, it was easier to convince them. No one could deny that Rihanna wasn’t beautiful. That sort of worked in my favour. Those who had called me kaali and unattractive has to take back their words,” she said.
