Canadian fashion model Chantelle Brown-Young aka Winnie Harlow has vitiligo, a condition that causes skin depigmentation in some parts. After appearing on America’s top model, Winnie was signed by Desigual’s for their fall campaign.
Speaking about her association with Desigual, she said the brand “stands for being unusual and unique and atypical, so they figured she’d e the perfect person. Also, they had a new line that had a lot of dots. And some of my skin patterns are dots.”
Born with achondroplasia – a form of dwarfism, Dru, who is 3-feet, 4-inches tall, was often bullied at school for her condition. Secretly, she wanted to become a model and so she moved to LA.
Speaking to Bored Panda, she said, ” I want everybody in the fashion world just to be accepted. I want anybody to be able to walk that runway just like anybody else – whether you see them rolling down the runway in your wheelchair or on crutches.”
A journalist and model, Jillian didn’t let her muscular dystrophy hold her back. She was featured in Diesel’s spring campaign and aims to redefine beauty standards and remind fashion brands that models like her exist and are beautiful in every sense.
She happens to be the first model with Down Syndrome to walk the ramp. Walking at New York Fashion Week in 2015 was one of Madeline’s “biggest achievement”. She has walked for them 6 seasons in a row. Her biggest dream is to walk for Victoria’s Secret and one day, she hopes to walk for coveted designers like Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Versace.
