The fight between India’s two metros — Delhi and Mumbai — is far from settled. Well, for the undying love for food, in general and street food, in particular, both the cities boast of some of the most lip-smacking delicacies:
1. Mumbai’s Vada Pav and Delhi’s Samosa
Every Mumbaikar has sentiments attached to vada pav and Delhiites’ love for samosa is well-known. It is more than food for both the cities , it is a way of life.
Not a single roadside eatery in Mumbai wouldn’t have this fried potato dumpling inside pav, while a crispy golden aloo samosa with a piping hot chai is something that every Delhiite can snack on anytime.

2. Bombil Fry and Chicken Tikka
If you are in Mumbai and love seafood and have never had Bombil Fry/Bombay Duck, you haven’t eaten anything. Well, the same goes for Delhi’s Chicken Tikka.
Fried in rawa until brown, Bombay duck tastes best with a sweet-sour gorkeri pickle. Small pieces of boneless chicken tandoor-ed using skewers on angeethi after marinating in spices and yogurt, Chicken Tikka is something that can make you drool in seconds.
3. Bheja Fry and Nihari
Mumbai’s bheja fry can definitely give tough competition to Old Delhi’s nihari.
Pan-fried brain cooked with Indian spices is the staple street food in Mumbai, while nihari from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area is a must-have breakfast. Slow cooked mutton with a myriad of spices, Nihari is cooked on very low heat for upto four hours.

4. Mumbai’s Akuri On Toast and Delhi’s Bread-Omelette
Scrambled egg packed with a hot and spicy punch of garlic, ginger, onion, coriander, black pepper, green chillies and garam masala. Mumbai’s Akuri tastes best with pav.
While Delhi’s plain and simple bread-omelette is something you will everywhere. High-on demand, Delhiites typically have it for breakfast or as evening snacks.
5. Frankie and Roll
Wraps are the most convenience food ever. You just grab one and eat on the go.
But when it comes about Mumbai’s frankie, you just can’t say no. Frankies are the wrap with a layer of omelette on the inside stuffed with potato, cottage cheese or vegetables cutlet, along with a combination of sauces. The rolls you get in Delhi mainly is a plain roti or parantha with pre-cooked mixture of shredded meat, paneer or veggies.
6. Misal Pav and Pav Bhaji
Go to any street in Mumbai and you will get misal pav. When it comes to Delhi’s, the same goes with pav bhaji.
Matki lentils and chilly powder gravy poured over cooked lentils accompanied with pav makes for Mumbai’s Misal Pav. Semi-curry of mixed vegetables cooked in a special blend of spices with oodles of butter and served with pav, you know that’s your plate of Delhi’s pav bhaji.
7. Gola and Delhi’s Kulfi Falooda
A meal is never complete without a dessert!
So, if Mumbai has ice balls, made from grated ice, dipped in flavoured juices, cream and various toppings, Delhi has got its kulfi falooda.
