Food is one thing everyone loves. And at the same time, everyone loves talking about it. Any information related to food is as interesting as a dish itself. Well, this might be a little disturbing but here is some truth about your favourite food items.
1. Rodent hair in peanut butter
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) claims that a 100 grams jar of peanut butter bottle might contain one or more rodent hair. Moreover, the report also states that the bottle can have 30 or more insect fragments.
2. Crushed beetles used for red food dye
According to FDA, the red food coloring contains an ingredient called carmine which is derived from boiled cochineal bugs (a type of beetle). This food colouring is mainly used in ice creams, ketchup, and syrups.
3. Insect secretions in jelly beans & candies
According to report on living diet, candies and jelly beans look so glossy because of the resins processed from the female bug called Kerria lacca. Not only it makes candies and jellies glossy, but also give longer shelf life.
4. Traces of hair, skin, and nails in hot dogs
A report by Clear Labs (US) released in 2015 states that hot dogs contain traces of human hair, skin, and nails. However, there was no official confirmation on the report from other food departments.
5. Dead insects inside figs
According to experts, figs are inverted flowers that include an insect called wasp in its pollination process. Female wasps lay their larvae inside male figs. Later they die inside the fig, and that is what we eat.
