Vaginas have a natural odour. And each woman has a different characteristic odour that changes based on various conditions like menstrual cycle, diet, and bacterial infections. While the typical scent of a healthy vajayjay can be described as slightly ‘fleshy‘ or ‘musky‘ and in case of periods, a ‘metallic‘ one. Strong odour coupled with unusual discharge and irritation indicate that something is not right down under and that it needs your immediate attention.
Having said that, it’s important to note that you don’t need to rush to a doctor if you smell something fishy or rusty. Try making some basic changes to your daily routine first and if the problem persists beyond a week, you know where to find a doctor.
Meanwhile, here are a couple of tips and tricks you can try at home:
1) About hygiene
Maintaining a strict hygiene routine is a good practice. In addition to keeping our bodies clean, it helps in reducing vaginal odour. Shower and change your underwear daily. Don’t insert soap into your vagina and wash your underwear with unscented products.
2) Diet
A healthy and a balanced diet is the key to healthy living. Drink ample amount of water as it prevents bacterial overgrowth while ensuring that your sweat doesn’t smell bad. Include plenty of sweet-smelling food items like– watermelon, apple, and celery in your diet.
3) Clothes are important too
Very tight-fitting clothes trap moisture and make it easier for the bacteria to grow. Also, while satin and silk undergarments are good, cotton is the best choice as it is less likely to hold moisture.

– Pour 1-2 cups of ACV in a warm bath and soak your body in it for 20 minutes.
5) Essential oils
Essential oils can work wonders on vaginal odour. Just like ACV, Tea tree oil is known to have anti-microbial properties and it will help in reducing the bad bacteria. Just apply a drop or two outside your vajayjay and repeat for 3-5 days.
