Alphonse de Lamartine once remarked, “There is a woman at the beginning of all great things.” That sums up the importance of women in our lives. Gone are the days, when men had the authority to dominate, subjugate and ask women to submit to their will. In the present era, things are changing, women are breaking the shackles of established norms of the society. Celebrating the International Women’s Day is a strong message to all the people out there. It indicates freedom, confidence and definitely about the empowerment.
Every year, we celebrate the day with great vigour and excitement. We never think about how and when it started. The history dates back to the year 1908 wherein women decided to set upon a movement that changed the overall outlook in the coming years. Back then, nearly 15,000 women marched through the New York City demanding better pay and right to vote. Every year, on the last Sunday of February, the tradition continued till 1913. This was a clear example of how it all started.
Since then, women have not looked back. Over the years, there have been several classic examples to showcase the prowess of women. From Malala Yousafzai to Madonna, women have symbolised free-spirited nature. They are powerful and emotional. They are your first teachers, they are your first motivation. There is nothing that women There is nothing that women can’t do what men can. They are equal and they are strong.
