Durga Puja celebrations this year are witnessing a different trend wherein pandals are being decorated in accordance with themes based on nature and related issue.
Apart from nature, several pandals across the country also depicted social and political themes. While liquor ban in Bihar saw echoes at a Durga Puja pandal in Purnea, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee too found her way into one of the pandals in Kolkata, where she was depicted as the eight-handed goddess.
Another pandal in Kolkata was dedicated to Mother Teresa.
Guwahati lead the nation in terms of pandals dedicated to nature. While one pandal effectively highlighted the issue of global warming and rhino killing, another pandal stirred the conscience by focusing on the theme of ‘save nature – save earth’.
Sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik dedicated his latest sculpture to the Army jawans, sending them blessings from goddess Durga.
