If you have ever been to Oxford bookstore in Connaught Place, you must have come across a guy sitting in a corner greeting people with a warm smile or busy making sketches. Well, he is Amit Verma — a person suffering from impaired hearing. He is associated with Atulyakala — a lifestyle and design brand working with deaf artists. They create an array of beautiful things like wall art, coffee mugs, bags and journals.
The venture was started by Smriti Nagpal, who has been working as an interpreter with the deaf community for more than eight years now. Not only in India, Atulyakala also has a presence in Portugal and Denmark The proceeds from the purchases go towards educating and empowering the deaf community.
