While many Indians prefer going to international destinations for a honeymoon or romantic gateways, Lonely Planet Magazine has found a beautiful place in India and has also awarded it for being the ‘Best Destination for Romance’. And the place is Kerala’s popular hill station Munnar. Yes, that is true. With sprawling tea plantations and winding lanes, the hilly Munnar town in Idukki district is famous for its romantic cottages, cloudy mountains, green valleys and waterfalls.
P Bala Kiran, Director, Kerala Tourism received the award from Hindi film actress Diana Penty at the sixth edition of the award distribution in Mumbai recently. Bala Kiran said such awards inspire other travel enthusiasts to visit and experience unexplored destinations. Kerala, considered India s greenest state, is also witnessing constant progress in foreign as well as domestic tourist arrivals since 2011, he said.
The foreign and domestic tourist arrivals in the state have escalated by 6.23 per cent and 5.67 per cent respectively compared to the previous year, he said. The state government, which will soon come with a new tourism policy, is giving more thrust to tourism infrastructure, Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran said.
The low mountain panorama is splendid especially during the monsoons when mist envelopes the mountain tops. Even though many tourists avoid Munnar during the monsoons, this is a great time to visit the hill station if you are looking for a quiet vacation.
So next time when you plan a holiday with your partner, Munnar should be on the top of your list.
