He may be just 10, but Aiyaan Ahmed doesn’t believe in dreaming small. When he was five, he was dabbling with music apps, by the age of seven, he was a DJ with gigs at one of Bengaluru’s most popular nightclubs.
Popularly known as DJ Atom, this 10-year-old loves playing dubstep and Drum n Bass. He is an expert in CDJ machine and works like a pro when it comes to manual-queuing and beat-matching.
“Being a young DJ is not that difficult,” he said. “When you are being taught in school you pick everything fast. So when you are being taught to DJ you also pick it up fast.”
He is known to play music that matches the international standards. “When it comes to professional DJing, it doesn’t matter whether it is easy or difficult. If you put on your hat, it becomes easy,” he said.
Aiyaan won 2017 Palm Expo DJ Championship in Mumbai where he competed with 19 DJs. He become the youngest DJ ever to win in the championship’s history.
Aiyaan has taken a professional training from Resonance Studios and aspires to perform at international music festivals in the future.
But does he get time to attend school at all? “I study in class V and attend school regularly.” He further added, “I would like to pursue a career in DJing.”
Aiyaan sure knows what he wants. “I want to play music at lots of places but Tomorrowland and Ultra Music festival are my dream places.”
But there is one thing that Aiyaan can’t seem to wrap his head around. How to convince nightclub owners who hesitate to give him gigs because of his age?
