6 Lakh Diyas & More: Ayodhya’s Rs 133-Crore Diwali Celebrations

The event was certified by Guinness World Record as the "largest display of oil lamps".

Over 5.5 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) were lit on the banks of Saryu river on Diwali eve in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. The event was by certified Guinness World Record as the “largest display of oil lamps”
Over 6,000 volunteers took part in the event to make sure the diyas remained lit. It was the part of the state govt’s three-day Deepotsav celebrations organised at a cost of Rs 133 crore with a ‘mega aarti’ performed by CM Adityanath as well as ‘Shobha Yatra’ with 11 chariots. In 2018, over 3 lakh diyas were lit at the ghat. The event was organised by Uttar Pradesh’s Department of Tourism and Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya Awadh University. Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed ‘aarti’ at the ghat.
