A BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh has a unique solution to the problem of sexual harassment faced by women . The lawmaker believes if girls would stop making boyfriends, the atrocities against them would automatically stop.
Speaking at an event at the Guna Government College, local MLA Pannalal Shakya said, “Why do girls make boyfriends? If they stop doing this, the atrocities against them will stop.”
The lawmaker reminisced that a TV channel had asked him on ways to prevent atrocities against women.
“A TV channel recently asked for my comment on atrocities against women in Madhya Pradesh. I told them what I told you just now,” he said.
The MLA also advised boys to refrain from embracing the “western culture of making girlfriends.”
Shakya went on to dub International Women’s Day as a foreign tradition.
“In the Indian philosophy, women are held in high regard and we celebrate Women’s Day four times annually. We worship them four times,” he said.
This is not the first time Shakya has landed in controversy. The lawmaker last year kicked up a row after he questioned the patriotism of India skipper Virat Kohli for marrying actress Anushka Sharma in Italy.
