Despite China affirming that the Dalai Lama’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh did ‘serious damage’ to Indo-China bilateral ties, the spiritual leader addressed devotees in Tawang April 8. The 14th Dalai Lama addressed a large group of people in Tawang Stadium.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu kick-started the proceedings at the Tawang Stadium, paying respects to his holiness. CM Khandu proposed Dalai Lama to hold next Kalachakra in Tawang.
Reacting to China’s objection to his visit to Arunachal Pradesh, the Dalai Lama said, “it’s the time when China needs another cultural revolution, but it should be compassion culture movement.”
He further added, “as far as cultural heritage is concerned, I believe Taiwan is better than China.” The Dalai Lama said, “We have 1000 articles written by Chinese scholars that show Chinese people support middle way approach. We just want to protect our language and culture.”Commenting

Commenting on the image of Dalai Lamas portrayed by Chinese, the spiritual leader said, ” Chinese people have every right to know the reality about Dalai Lama, not as projected by Chinese.”
The Dalai Lama also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He recalled meeting PM Modi when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat and said he is ‘quite active’.
He also called BJP senior leader LK Advani a “great friend”. The Dalai Lama also recalled how he used to send Advani chocolates as he is fond of chocolates.
Speaking on the reincarnation of the Dalai Lamas, the spiritual leader said, ‘from this year, he’ll start holding meetings with high Lamas to discuss reincarnation issue.’
“In 1969 only, I left it on people to decide whether the institution of Dalai Lama should continue,” he further added.
He said, “shall include Mongolian devotees also in his discussion on reincarnation.”
The Indian government has maintained that the trip is purely spiritual in nature and has criticised China’s communist government for generating ‘artificial controversies.’
