Delhi is reeling under an unbearable heatwave with temperatures touching 45 degree Celsius. Those traveling by Air conditioned cars are still spared the wrath of the sun. Those waiting for their buses to get to their offices and colleges perhaps are the worst victims of Delhi’s scorching summers. This when we are still to withstand June, the hottest month of the year. However, there is some respite for bus commuters with fully Air Conditioned bus stands coming up across the city. The first one is already functional at Lajpat Nagar.
On 13 May 2017, they installed their first fully air-conditioned bus stop shelter at Lajpat Nagar. As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Daikin India joined hands with the Delhi government to bring this AC bus stand to life. This pilot was launched on an experimental basis, a well thought-out strategy for the company’s fresh phase of investment, which can be seen as a blessing in disguise for the heat stricken passengers of DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) buses.
“It is a prototype and while we want to install more such air-conditioned shelters for bus commuters across Delhi, we want to see how this pans out first. Our aim is to monitor the response for a while. In just three days we have managed to gain public recognition with surprised commuters sharing pictures on social media. I believe this will be a successful campaign considering the heat that we are experiencing in NCR,” says Anuj Mangla who is the Divisional Manager Marketing of Daikin India.
The bus commuters were more than willing to make full use of this public amenity. Millennials went on to share pictures on social media platforms. Twitterati thanked Daikin India and patted the back of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for the initiative.
