It’s hard to miss someone like Dheeraj Dhoopar on Indian television. The handsome actor has been a part of one of the most highly rated shows on the small screen, Sasural Simar Ka. But, Dheeraj is much more than just a TV star. Not many know that the actor is a designer and stylist as well. He aims to bring men’s fashion to the fore, a field that has been ignored over the years. He believes that there’s a lot that needs to be explored.
In a telephonic interview with InUth, TV’s most loved Prem spoke about his plans as a stylist and his road ahead. Revealing a few lesser known facts about him, Dheeraj also mentioned that being an actor is just one part of him. Excerpts:
How did fashion designing happen?
When I was a kid, I used to participate in fashion events. When I did my first fashion show, I decided to become a ramp model. I couldn’t be one because I wasn’t tall enough. I won a contest and as a prize, I got an advance course in fashion designing. The best part about my course was that I was the only guy in my batch. So, there was never any dearth of female attention.
Acting or styling: What would you choose?
Being in front of the camera is my first love, always.

So, what now?
I really feel there are very few men stylists in India and I just want to be there. I just want to get into men’s styling.
One evergreen style tip which you would give to men?
One point is of utmost importance in men’s style is the ‘correct fit’. Whatever you are wearing—a jeans, T-shirt, trousers, or shirt—make sure, it fits you well. It shouldn’t be tight or loose. Since summers are here, try choosing fabrics like cotton and linen. The latter one is my favourite. If you are on the beach, there are suits that cater to your fashion need; also, you may wear shorts and jackets, it looks very cool.
What should a young office-goer wear to work?
You should go for ankle-length trousers and good formal shoes with it. You could choose contrasting colours in shirt and sleek ties as they make a statement. Also, if the weather allows, you can go for a 2-piece formal suit.
What do you think someone should wear on a date?
I think men can try with floral shirts—it gives an edgy touch to your look. I would prefer a linen trouser with a light hue and shoes. And make sure, you smell nice.

One celebrity you think is the most stylish?
Saif Ali Khan. I think he is the most stylish man and the way he carries himself is amazing. I also like Rahul Khanna and his sense of style.
