Here's why 'Single Lady' not allowed to stay in Hyderabad hotel. Read her Facebook post

After the incident came to light, Goibibo reached out to Nupur Saraswat and offered a complimentary stay at a different hotel

22-year-old Nupur Saraswat had not thought in her dreams that she would have to go through such a horrible experience at a hotel in Hyderabad. Sawant, an artist based in Singapore was not allowed to stay at a hotel in Hyderabad for the reason that she is a ‘single lady’. When she was trying to check into a hotel, the staff told her that single women travellers are not allowed to stay.

While sharing her experience on social media she wrote, “So, I am standing outside a hotel in Hyderabad which didn’t let me stay because they realized I was a “single lady” even after confirming the online booking. Yup, massive bag in hand, gross from the journey – just standing outside the hotel. Somehow they decided I was safer on the streets than in the hotel. Funny huh, how patriarchy works?” She also posted a screenshot of the hotel’s official policy which clearly mentions, “Single lady not allowed”.

She had booked a Hyderabad’s Hotel Deccan Erragadda through a travel booking site Goibibo which confirmed the booking even when she categorically mentioned in the details for a single occupancy and female traveller. After the incident came to light, Goibibo reached out to Saraswat and offered a verbal apology. She was also offered a complimentary stay at different hotel.

Her new Facebook post reads, “There are also those who have tried to silence this by asking “why are you making a fuss if it’s clearly stated in the policy?”. Well I am making a fuss because I am not ready to settle. I am not ready to live in the fear of my safety anymore. I am not ready to have an entire system push me around until I “find a man to travel with”. She added, “Women are going to travel alone, and travel everywhere The companies who will survive are the ones who can keep up with this”.
