IIFA has always been one of the events of Bollywood calendar which generates a lot of buzz. This time the organisers of IIFA took it up a notch by taking it to New York and having MetLife stadium as the venue. The venue was said to have a capacity of 80,000 people and organizers claimed all tickets were sold out. To make IIFA 2017 more entertaining, stars like Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon performed. The show was hosted by Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan.
However, despite such an interesting lineup, the question is- Was IIFA 2017 entertaining enough? Sadly, the answer is in the negative. Nothing about the show kept up with all the buzz that it created. From Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar’s poor jokes to the stars being nervous and sometimes trying to talk in an American accent, IIFA 2017 seemed superficial. In fact, in terms of fashion as well, there were more misses than hits, taking IIFA 2017 farther from any kind of brownie points.
As the event which was super hyped has drawn curtains on itself, here is a list of moments which made IIFA 2017 a boring watch:
Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar:

The two popular celebs of Bollywood hosted the main event and their coming togetherwas one of the highlights. But their camaraderie seemed cooked up and none of their jokes made us laugh. Take this for example:
KJo: Ab hum mardo ki taraf badhte hain
Saif: That is really your thing naa?
Aren’t we fed up of these homosexuality jokes already!
Anil Kapoor and Karan Johar:

When Anil Kapoor came on stage to give the award to AR Rahman, there were expectations he would light up the stage with his energy. But it didn’t happen. In fact, the hosts made Anil say the same ‘jhakkas’ dialogue (which we have heard like a million times) and then he left. Anil taking a potshot at Karan Johar’s films weren’t funny either. The last nail in the coffin was when Anil promoted his movie Mubarakan on IIFA 2017b stage.
Shahid Kapoor’s performance:

Shahid is undoubtedly one of the best performers Bollywood has. We all really look forward to his acts but this time we were bored. You ask why? Shahid really needs to choose his songs wisely. The numbers like Saree Ke Fall Sa, Gandi Baat, have become so repetitive that it rarely eases the anxiety of Bollywood lovers.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s ‘forced’ impromptu act:

Sushant danced really well at the IIFA 2017 stage. But when it came to being unprepared and entertaining audience, he seemed quite nervous. When Sushant went on stage to give award to Anupam Kher, he mouthed few poetic lines, which again were boring.
Katrina Kaif’s performance:

It won’t be wrong to say that Katrina’s fans who were waiting desperately for her performance would be disappointed. Most of the dance steps of Katrina seemed repetitive.

Sonakshi Sinha’s presence on stage:

Sonakshi Sinha came on stage to talk about eradicating malnutrition. Though the topic really needs our attention and it is commendable that IIFA started a conversation about it. But it would have been good if Sonakshi prepared her words better. She seemed disconnected with the cause making it all superficial.

Manish Paul’s absence:

The only moments when IIFA 2017’s hosting seemed fun was when Manish Paul came. Though his interacti0ns with the stars also seemed dull, he would have been a better host that Saif and Karan.
Salman Khan’s singing:

IIFA could have milked the presence of Salman Khan to a great extent to make the event truly one of a kind. But that also did not happen. In fact, Salman singing seemed pre-recorded. Don’t you think Salman performs better at Bigg Boss?
Karan’s obsession with Kangana Ranaut:

Karan Johar says he wants the word nepotism to not be discussed so much but ended up doing the same at the IIFA 2017. After taking jibe at Kangana, he also spoke to Kriti Sanon to continue his act of taking potshots at the Queen actress. The sad part is, even this failed to entertain.
Constant promotions of Colors’ shows:
On more than one occasions, IIFA seemed an extensi0n of Colors channel. The host Karan Johar could not stop talking about the shows to be aired on this channel.
Why did you do this to us IIFA? We were expecting so much more!
