Ahead of the virtual quarter-final in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 between India and South Africa on June 11, Virat Kohli addressed the media personnel and asserted that team India will try their best to stop AB de Villiers and team as soon as possible. He stressed on the fact that the team which will treat tomorrow’s game as a usual game and have the better composure will definitely win the game.
Virat said,”You need to have a good balance of being competitive and at the same time, you have to control yourself. The team that treats the game as a usual one and has better composure will win the game.”
When he was asked about AB de Villiers’ inconsistent form and whether he could into life in tomorrow’s game, Kohli said,”I empathise a lot with him. I have also been through the same situation. People expect a lot from us and when we fail, they are shocked. He is one of the most committed cricketers I have ever seen.”
“At the same time, he knows when to come out and perform the way only he can. We’ll look to stop not only him but all the batsmen. And with that mindset, we’ll play tomorrow.”
He didn’t reveal much about tomorrow’s strategy when asked about Ashwin’s inclusion in the playing XI but assured of delivering their best efforts and playing good cricket. Probably there won’t be any change in strategy.
He also appreciated Yuvraj’s efforts and his class in the game of cricket. Tomorrow’s game against South Africa is probably going to be Yuvraj’s 300 ODI for India and ahead of that, Virat said,”300 ODI is a magnificent achievement. You have to super skilled in reaching this feat. He has done big things in a big tournament. He has achieved tremendous things for India and personally, he fought in bigger battles. I wish all the best for tomorrow’s game he could turn into a big one.”
Meanwhile, he cross-questioned a journo when he asked Virat whether the next game is going to be the biggest games of his captaincy career. He asked,” Wasn’t the first game was the biggest against Pakistan as you people said it the biggest. I don’t think that was the biggest neither the next against South Africa.”
“As a team, it’s a much important and the same goes with South Africa. It will be a great game for both the teams. As a cricketer, I always crave for such game.” He added.
When asked about the memories with oval, he described Shikhar Dhawan’s innings in the Champions Trophy 2013 where he scored a hundred along with the 7-match series against England where Robin Uthappa turned out to be a star. He said,”I haven’t played too many games here but these matches are among my good memories.”
