Old Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar is arguably the best market in the city if one intends to shop for Diwali, especially if it’s about firecrackers or decorative items. But this year, things have changed in the aftermath of the ban on firecrackers. None of the shops were found selling firecrackers as the authorities didn’t grant them the licence. While many shoppers were happy with the ban, some felt that Diwali was incomplete without firecrackers. In 2017, the apex court banned the sale, use and manufacture of firecrackers that were not were not ‘green’. But earlier this year, it allowed the bulk manufacture of green crackers which adhered to the anti-pollution norms. But both buyers and shopkeepers said that green firecrackers are difficult to get.
