A release before a holiday, promotions across all platforms and a stellar star cast may have worked in favour of Raees. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer is off to a great start and the first day collection are nothing short of overwhelming. Cine buffs rushed to theatres to see ‘Miyanbhai’ SRK in full action yesterday. Reports have it that Raees raked in Rs20.42 crore on the release day. The film is said to have 70% occupancy in the theatres.
The expected numbers are a testimony of Shah Rukh’s stardom, a factor on which the makers have been able to cash in brilliantly. In the film, Shah Rukh Khan essayed the role of a fearless bootlegger who rose to become one of the most dreaded criminals of Gujarat. The way he repeatedly fought with an honest officer ACP Majmudar (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) was the epicenter of the story. Directed by Rahul Dholakia of Parzania fame, Raees got rave reviews from viewers and critics. Almost everyone who watched the movie were impressed by the way the crime thriller unfurled.

Raees faced competition at the Box Office from Kaabil. This clash had become the talk of town for quite a long time. On the day of the clash, yesterday, Hrithik Roshan tweeted to Shah Rukh Khan that he was his mentor and he hoped that King Khan would be happy with his film. But later in the day, makers of Kaabil alleged Raees of foul play. Rakesh Roshan, the producer of Kaabil, said that exhibitors had earlier promised 50-50 percent screens to both films.
