Over the last week, parts of West Bengal are in the midst of communal frenzy following violence triggered by the Ram Navami processions. Four people have been killed and dozens have been injured. Property worth crores has been damaged and burnt down.
Just when the things were going awfully wrong, an Imam of a local mosque in Asansol left his personal tragedy aside and tried to calm down the tempers.
Rashidi’s son was killed in the riots and soon after his body was found, there was tension in the area.
However, taking hold of things, Rashidi appealed people to maintain peace and not retaliate. The influential Imam, who has been living in the area for 30 years, threatened to leave the town if there was any kind of retaliation from his community.
