It’s a sad day for EDM as millions of people woke up to a horrible news- Avicii, the poster boy for EDM, has passed away at only 28.
He was found dead in Muscat, Oman. His representative said in a statement: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time.”
While the cause of death was not announced as Avicii’s representative said no further statements would be issued, Avicii’s health issues were known to the public for several years prior to his death- he was suffering from acute pancreatitis which he said was in part caused by excessive drinking.
The superstar DJ was just 21 years old at the time of his professional breakthrough. He was discovered on MySpace by a veteran Dutch producer and was behind some of the decade’s biggest hits. Avicii was one of the first EDM stars to arrive on the mainstream scene and was the world’s sixth-highest-paid DJ at one point, making $19 million a year. Tracks like Wake Me Up became anthems for the millions of millennials
Millions of fans are left heartbroken due to his untimely demise:
