This DU Professor's Unique Discovery Can Help Extract Destroyed Fingerprints

Will it help nab criminals?

At every crime scene, fingerprints form the most crucial evidence for an investigation. But what happens when they are destroyed by suspects after the crime? Well, a Delhi University professor has devised two new techniques to extract fingerprints even if they get destroyed by water, fire or blood. Dr GS Sodhi, a Chemistry professor at SGTB Khalsa College is the brain behind the novel discovery. With the two techniques, Small Particle Reagent & Phase Transfer Catalyst, fingerprints formed from human body’s sweat can be traced for identification

Dr Sodhi has patented the two techniques which are cheaper and are way more efficient than the conventional powder sprinkling method. He was recently awarded by the Union Home Ministry for his innovation in the field of forensic science. His department also gave training to police officials from India and abroad. He hopes that these techniques will one day move out of his laboratory and will be actually used during crime scene investigation.
