Flying taxis might soon be the reality as German aviation start-up Volocopter demonstrated a test flight of its air taxi over Singapore’s Marina Bay. The Volocopter can take off and land vertically, flies with its 18 rotor blades and is electrically powered. Travellers can book a flight through an app and can choose between fixed stations. The trip is expected to cost over Rs 400/km. Though the test flight was manned by a pilot, future flights are expected to be fully autonomous. Air taxi services can reportedly decongest roads and reduce strain on public transport.
