Scores of students and professors from various universities took out a march on Wednesday against the government’s move to grant autonomy to various universities.
The protests were in response to the University Grant Commission’s (UGC) decision to grant autonomy to 60 higher education institutions in the country which have maintained high academic standards.
This move, according to HRD minister Prakash Javdekar is as historic as the 1991 liberalization of the Indian economy.
