Despite strict R-Day vigil, class 1 kid gets abducted in Delhi, bus driver shot at

Two bike-borne assailants have reportedly taken the boy to Uttar Pradesh.

Amid tightened security in the city on the eve of the Republic Day celebrations, a school bus driver was shot at and a class 1 student was kidnapped in Delhi’s Shahdara area. The incident happened on Thursday in the morning near IHBAS hospital when armed bike-borne assailants intercepted the school bus, attacked the driver and kidnapped the child.

According to eyewitnesses, two men wearing helmets came on a black bike and stopped the bus. The pillion rider shot the bus driver and kidnapped the boy in front of his sister. There were about 20 students inside the bus when the crime took place. They later fled towards Uttar Pradesh through the nearby border.

Joint Commissioner of Police (eastern range) Ravindra Singh Yadav confirmed the incident. “An FIR has been registered and several specialised units of the Delhi Police have initiated a probe. No ransom call has been made by kidnappers till 10 am,” he said, reports Indian Express.

As of now, there is no information about the condition of the bus driver.

Meanwhile, the national capital is under a ground-to-air security cover in view of the Republic Day celebrations and the visit of 10 ASEAN leaders for a high-profile summit.
