There has been a flood of bizarre performances in the ongoing World T20 Region Qualifiers. Nepal and Singapore are dominating the other five teams in the tournament. We have already witnessed a bunch of low scores and chases lasting only a few deliveries. China are clearly struggling as their highest score in the tournament so far is 48 against Myanmar — another team that has been struggling.
But this time, they kicked it up a notch. Against Nepal, 7 Chinese batsmen got out without opening their accounts. Only three batsmen managed to open their accounts. The scores are 11, 1 and 5. The highest run-scorer for them was opener Hong Jiang Yan who scored 11 runs off 27 deliveries.
The previous world record for most ducks in a T20 match was 6, which was held by Kenya, Zimbabwe and three other T20 teams including Kochi, a former franchise in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2011. If China vs Nepal is given a T20I status, it will be a world record which would be hard for even the weakest of batting lineups to break.
China have scored just 180 runs in five matches. Mostly, their scores were chased down by teams in the powerplay overs itself.
18-year-old Sandeep Lamichhane’s leg spin turned out to be too good for Chinese middle-order batsmen as they fell too early. Lamichhane, Lalit Rajbanshi and Basant Regmi picked three wickets each in the innings. It was an easy win for Nepal as they chased down the target of 27 runs in just 10 deliveries, thanks to Binod Bhandari’s whirlwind innings.
Here’s how Twitterati reacted to China’s batting collapse:

Exactly what I feel
All those people who aren’t able to get selected in their national team should look at this opportunity of moving permanently to China and represent them. lots of player do go to another country for better opportunities. Think about it you can be legends like Sir Bradman in China

Chinese athletes have performed exceedingly well in other games but it seems like dominating a sport like cricket is still a far-fetched dream for them.
