The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on August 3 recommended cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur and Cheteshwar Pujara for the prestigious Arjuna Awards this year but ignored Indian women captain Mithali Raj for this year Khel Ratna award. Mithali Raj was ignored despite leading her team into the finals of the just concluded ICC Women’s World Cup. Though Indian eves lost to England in the finals by just 9 runs.
On the other hand, Indian batter Harmanpreet Kaur was rewarded for her performance at the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup. The experienced batter smashed an unbeaten 171 runs off just 115 balls to help India beat formidable Australia in the semi-finals.
That innings made Harmanpreet the record holder for the highest individual score for India at the women’s World Cup. It is also the second-highest score by an Indian batter in women’s one-day internationals, behind Deepti Sharma’s 188.

Cheteshwar Pujara, who is currently playing his 50th Test match in Sri Lanka, struck his 13th Test century in the ongoing second Test match at Colombo.

At stumps, Pujara was batting on 128 while Rahane was unbeaten on 103 as India post 344/3 on the opening day of the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on August 3
