CBI registers a dope case against banned wrestler Narsingh Yadav

The Court of Arbitration for Sports had banned Narsingh Yadav for 4-years

The Central Board of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case in connection with the dope test of wrestler Narsingh Yadav. Prior to the Olympics, the 27-year-old grappler from Varanasi had tested positive for a banned steroid following a dope test in July 2016.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) alongside Narsingh Yadav have maintained that the grappler is a victim of sabotage. Either his food or water was allegedly mixed with banned substance at the Sports Authorities of India (SAI) facilities in Sonepat.

After an investigation, Narsingh Yadav was given a clean chit by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). But, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rejected it and subsequently appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) to look into the matter. CAS panel reiterated that the Indian wrestler was not a victim of sabotage as there is no evidence that he bore no fault. He was then banned for 4-years by the CAS on August 18, 2016. The ban resulted in him being ousted from the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
