Sunil Narine is climbing up the order for his quick fire innings in Indian Premier League (IPL) and Big Bash League (BBL). But, it was not his batting skills that got in the limelight this time, rather his broken bat did. Narine got Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) off to a flier as they won the toss and elected to bat first. The score was 47 for 1 in 3.2 overs with Mohammad Sami bowling his second over. On Sami’s delivery, Narine, who had already hit one boundary in the over, backed away this time and tried to go over the covers. The ball ended up hitting the toe-end of the bat took a part away with it.
Narine straight away signalled to the dug out and asked for a new bat. Former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara too was curious on seeing a part of the bat torn away.
Though Narine did his part by giving Trinbago Knight Riders a fiery start by scoring 23 runs off 11 balls including 2 fours and 2 sixes, the middle order batsmen could not follow suit as they suffered a batting collapse in the latter part of the innings. They got bowled out for 147 with one ball to spare. Narine was the third-highest run scorer for Trinidad in the innings.
Only Brendon McCullum, Colin Munro and Darren Bravo could register scores in double figures, while others could not build up upon the fiery start Knight Riders got.

Jamaica Tallawahs chased down the total with 4 balls to spare. Sangakkara and Lendl Simmons got them to a good start in the powerplay overs and despite wickets falling at regular intervals, Jamaica got past the target. Narine did well with the ball as well, picking up two wickets and giving 21 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
Narine has cleared his way to become an option for the becoming the opener post his performance in IPL 2017, as Gautam Gambhir trusted in his scoring tactics during powerplay overs for a better part of the tournament.
