Sachin Tendulkar, known as a ‘God of Indian Cricket’, set many records during his 24-year long career. But 16 March 2012 is a special day even for the man whose second nature was to break records. This is the day he became the only batsman to score 100th international century at Dhaka’s Shere Bangla National Stadium.
Tendulkar achieved this milestone against Bangladesh during the 2012 Asia Cup tournament. He took a single off Shakib Al Hasan to enter his name in the records book.
Tendulkar went on to score 114 off 147 balls. The ‘little master’, who came to open the innings for India along with Gautam Gambhir, stayed till 46.5 overs before he edged the slower delivery by Mashrafe Mortaza and wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rehman made no mistake behind the stumps as he took an easy catch to dismiss the ‘little master’.
Tendulkar received the standing ovation from the crowd while he was walking back to the pavilion.
Tendulkar was the highest run scorer for India during this encounter. During his stay, Tendulkar smashed Bangladesh bowlers all around the park as he scored 12 fours and 1 six.
However, India went on to lose the match by five wickets, as Bangladesh chased down India’s total of 289 with four deliveries to spare.
His 99th century had come against South Africa on March 12, 2011, at Nagpur during the World Cup and was left stranded on 99 international hundreds for a year and four days.
