Afghanistan bowler Zahir Khan has been astonishingly consistent in T20 Blast 2018. Zahir may not have made his debut for Afghanistan national side yet, but it looks like selectors will line up at his door after his astonishing performance in England. In the quarter-final clash against Kent, Zahir took the prized wicket of skipper Sam Billings with a ball that spun a mile to hit the top of the stump, uprooting it from the ground.
The stock leg-spinner from Zahir turned a lot more than usual. Billings top-scored with 37 runs off 37 deliveries. While walking back to the dugout, he lauded the 19-year-old’s jaffa of a delivery as wickets were falling from the other end, he was trying to get his team to a respectable score.
Here’s the video of the dismissal:
Zahir was economical with his spell, too, giving just 28 runs from 4 overs. So far, he has been an indispensable part of the Lancashire team this season, taking 8 wickets from 6 games. His economy rate of 7.2 runs per over is the second-best for Lancashire in the tournament.
In light of his recent performances, Zahir can be another addition to Afghanistan’s spin brigade. Currently, the spots have been occupied by Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, but Zahir will be raring to get a chance at the international level.
