Virat Kohli and Co. are expected to have a tough series on the South African soil as the Proteas is likely to have all its gems back in the team. Veteran South African pacer Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn along with AB de Villiers are expected to feature in the Test series against India starting from January 5, 2017.
Morkel is back on the cricket field after a long time from injury. He is all set to play for the Titans in the ongoing RAM SLAM T20 Challenge tournament against the Cape Cobras at their home ground on Friday at Newlands. The news of his return has been confirmed by the coach of the Titans, Mark Boucher. While addressing a press conference, Boucher said,
“If we induct our best XI for the last two games then we’ll be giving ourselves one complete day to prepare for the semi-final. I certainly don’t have a problem giving other players an opportunity.”
Morkel suffered an injury during the first Test match against Bangladesh in the month of October.
On the other hand, South African veterans like Dale Steyn and AB de Villiers are all set to make a comeback in the red ball cricket after quite a long time. As announced by the Cricket South Africa, the team of South African Invitation XI is going to play a 4-day Test against Zimbabwe and the squad includes both AB and Steyn.
De Villiers last played a test match against England in January 2016. Since then, he has not appeared for the Proteas in whites. He suffered an injury in his elbow after which he decided to take a break from the Test format. Meanwhile, he also gave up his captaincy to Faf du Plessis.
