Alastair Cook Bowled Out Twice By Ashwin In Identical Deliveries, Twitterati Call It ‘Action Replay’

Cook now holds the unfortunate record of being Ashwin’s most common victim

India’s off-spinner is getting a lot of praise on Twitter for picking up the wicket of England’s most experienced batsman Alastair Cook in both the innings of the opening Test match.

On both the occasions, Cook failed to read Ashwin’s perfect off-break and ended up losing his wicket.

On day one of the Test match, Ashwin bowled the classical flighted off-spin that pitched around leg and then turned sharply right to pass the outside edge of Cook’s bat to hit the top of the stumps.

More than 24 hours later, Cook found himself in a similar situation as he was up against Ashwin in the fourth over of England’s innings.

Yet to score a run, Cook faced almost the exact same ball by Ashwin. Cook tried to play in line but missed it and the ball hit the top of the stumps.

I must confess I thought they were showing a replay of the 1st innings dismissal there. #Cook #Ashwin

Following the identical dismissal, Cook now holds the unfortunate record of being Ashwin’s most common victim. The Englishman has fallen to the off-spinner nine times. Only Australia’s David Warner has been dismissed by Ashwin as many times.

What a ball it is… Ashwin… You r fantastic#EngvInd pic.twitter.com/TWz0F3isml

Replying to England’s 287 first innings total, Virat Kohli notched up a hundred to guide India to 274 all out.

For the hosts, Sam Curran returned his career’s best figures of 4/74 while pace spearhead Anderson (2/41), Adil Rashid (2/31) and Ben Stokes (2/73) accounted for the rest of the wickets.

England ended day two with 9/1. They are now leading with 22 runs.
