Australian cricket captain Steve Smith has been honoured with this year’s Allan Border Medal at an event organised to honour Australian cricketers in Melbourne. The Allan Border Medal is awarded to the most outstanding Australian cricketer of the past season.
Smith, who last month was named the International Cricket Council’s Test Cricketer of the Year, became the fifth player after former skippers Michael Clarke (2005, 2009, 2012, 2013), Ricky Ponting (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009), Shane Watson (2010, 2011) and David Warner (2016, 2017) to win the medal on multiple occasions. This was Smith’s second AB Medal. He previously won it in 2015.
