Watch: Ashish Nehra’s first reaction after decision to retire from all forms of cricket

Ashish Nehra had decided from all forms of cricket whether it is IPL or international cricket, is scheduled to retire on November 1

India’s left-arm fast bowler Ashish Nehra has decided to call it quits to the international cricket. Nehra is scheduled to play his last T20I against New Zealand at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. Nehra is ecstatic to play at his home ground. Nehra has had over an 18-year-old career. He made his international debut in February 1999. The 38-year-old has gone through 12 injuries in his career and has been determined to make a comeback on every occasion.

Nehra revealed a few things in the pre-match press conference putting an end to the speculations. He said, “It’s my own decision. Match on November 1 is in Delhi. There is no bigger thing than to retire in your hometown.”

Nehra clarified his stand on retirement from all forms of cricket, he said, “I have decided something, there is no going back. If I retire, I won’t even play the IPL”.

Nehra was selected in the T20I squad against Australia. He has not played in the first two matches. Though there is a chance that he might get to play in the third T20I at Hyderabad.

Nehra made his T20I debut in 2009 against Sri Lanka. He has been in and out of the side due to injuries. He has played a total of 26 T20Is and picked up 34 wickets at an average of 21.44.

The left-arm pace can still bowl at a speed of above 135 km/h. He has had an even better record while playing in Indian Premier League (IPL) across seasons. The southpaw has played 88 T20s in 10 seasons and taken 106 wickets.

He has played for Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural season followed by his stint with Pune Warriors. Nehra returned to Delhi Daredevils in 2013 and then got picked up Chennai SuperKings in the next season. In the previous two seasons he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He was also in the team when Sunrisers Hyderabad won the title in 2016.
