Former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra, who recently retired from all forms of cricket, said he wants to see MS Dhoni play the 2020 T20 World Cup. This statement comes amid calls of MS Dhoni’s retirement from T20I cricket. MS Dhoni was not at his best during the recently concluded T20I series versus New Zealand. In the second T20I, with India requiring to bat at 12 runs per over, MS Dhoni, who was batting with a well-set Virat Kohli, scored 49 off 37 balls. But at a certain stage, he scored 15 off 17 balls and some cricketing pundits feel that is where India lost that game because Dhoni was left with too much to do at the end.
Ashish Nehra’s statement:
Nehra told ANI,
In every house, you need an elder one and he is there. I hope till next two to three years or as long as his body allows he plays. Cricket is a game of conditions definitely and it is not easy to perform. If it was in mind or if I am coach or captain I will be on his head that he has to play. I am not saying he doesn’t perform he has to play. He is the first guy who will raise his hand and say I am retiring if he is not performing. But I personally feel we should leave at MS Dhoni and let him play cricket.
He added,
He is one guy who is very honest with himself and the country. So, he should definitely play. I see him even to play T20 World Cup in 2020. If I can be a fast bowler at the age of 39. So, with MS Dhoni and his fitness, he can definitely play.
Meanwhile, Team India is getting all ready to play hosts to Sri Lanka in a Test series starting November 16. The first Test will be played at Kolkata, which recently had a makeover.
