Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team were having a walk in the park in the ongoing Women Asia Cup T20. They romped over Malaysia in the tournament opener followed by a comprehensive win over Thailand. The Indian team hadn’t lost a single game in the history of Asia Cup until they hit a roadblock in the third game. Bangladesh, who had not won a single T20I against India, pulled off the biggest upset of the tournament by beating the table-toppers in an edge-of-the-seat thriller.
This is India’s first loss in the tournament after 34 consecutive wins. They entered the tournament as favourites but got a reality check in the third game.
After two back to back wins, India Women lost to Bangladesh Women by 7 wickets in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2018.

HUGE achievement for the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team, beating World Cup finalists and six time Asian champions India. For a team still finding their feet I think this is the start of something special. #INDWvBANW pic.twitter.com/i0hpfcAAg0

After winning the toss, Harmanpreet decided to bat first. Openers Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana got out in the powerplay overs after scoring 2 and 15 respectively. The ploy to send an 18-year-old Pooja Vastrakar did not work as she could only score run-a-ball 20 before getting run-out.
Harmanpreet and Deepti Sharma tried to get the innings back on track but their departure in the death overs stopped India from posting a daunting total. In the end, India, which at one point looked like they’d cross 160, could score only 141 for 7 wickets.

Bangladesh got off to a decent start despite the early wicket of Ayesha Rahman. Fargana Hoque and Rumana Ahmed shared a match-winning 93-run stand for the fourth wicket to stun India. Hoque scored her maiden T20I fifty whereas Ahmed scored 42 runs off 34 deliveries. Bangladesh won the match by 7 wickets with 2 balls to spare.
