Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal & his family faces acid attack in England!

This is an incident Tamim would like to forget off soon, but surely the scare and the scars are bound to stay with him

Bangladesh’s star batsman Tamim Iqbal who plays for the English County, Essex Cricket Club allegedly encountered an acid attack on him and his family. Owing to this gaffe incident, he has called it quits from the Essex County Club. Tamim, also happens to be Bangladesh’s highest run-scorer in all three formats, with more than 10,000 runs. He is all of 28-year old. He had signed an eight-game contract in the T20 Blast county competition. Tamim Iqbal had hit a purple patch in the Champions Trophy as he was getting runs in a plenty. Thanks to his great exploits with the bat, Bangladesh managed to make it to the semi-finals of the coveted ICC event.

According to a report in Bangladesh’s The Daily Star, the incident happened when Tamim was dining with his wife Ayesha Siddiqa, who wears a hijab, and their one-year-old son. The paper claims that they were asked to leave the restaurant, and had acid thrown on them but the trio managed to escape unhurt. This surely seems to be a racial attack. These are the kind of attacks Asians have been facing over a period of time now.

Tamim just played one game for Essex, that was on Sunday when they played Kent and lost by seven wickets.

After Tamim quit, Essex County Club gave an official statement where they said, “Essex County Cricket Club can confirm that overseas player Tamim Iqbal has left the club with immediate effect due to personal reasons,” the statement read. “We wish him all the best, and it would be appreciated if Tamim’s privacy is respected during this time.”

But all Tamim needs to focus is on the cricket that lies ahead of him.
