Days after getting appointed as the chief administrator of the Bord of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), former Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Vinod Rai gave his first reaction and asserted that the newly formed admin body will put efforts to rejuvenate board’s image.
While speaking to the press reporters, Rai said, “We will revamp the entire system within the board and try hard to clean the Board’s image. BCCI needs good governance, we will provide that and restore it back to the democratic set-up that it should be.”
“The Supreme Court gave its order on January 30 and on February 4, I joined the post. I have just come back yesterday. So my experience has been very good,” said Rai on his stint so far.
“I’m facing no problem in handling BCCI because I sincerely believe that the number of cricket lovers in this country is humongous. We need to bring cricket to the doorstep of the cricket lovers in its undiluted form,” Rai told reporters during the launch of 805th branch of the Bandhan Bank in Delhi.
On January 30, the Supreme Court has finally figured out the administrative body of the BCCI and appointed former Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai to head the Indian Cricket Board along with Ramachandra Guha, Diana Edulji and Vikram Limaye.
Vinod Rai is widely considered as a symbol of the anti-corruption movement and is credited with having turned the office of CAG into a powerful force for accountability and transparency in contemporary India. As an auditor, the famous 2G scam and the Coal Scam was among his major audits.
Just a day after becoming the chief, Rai, on January 31, didn’t allow Chaudhary to convene the meeting and BCCI Chief Executive Officer Rahul Johri convened the meeting by video conferencing. This entire episode delayed the meeting by 3 hours. Later on February 6, the new admin body had sacked those officials who were appointed by the already sacked former BCCI President Anurag Thakur and Chief Secretary Ajay Shirke.
