The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee meeting scheduled on January 31 was delayed by four hours as the joint secretary Amitabh Chaudhary was found ineligible to convene the meeting.
The meeting called for the team selection for the one-off test against Bangladesh and was supposed to be held at 12 o’clock in the afternoon. But as the newly appointed BCCI administrators chief Vinod Rai didn’t allow Chaudhary to convene the meeting and BCCI Chief Executive Officer Rahul Johri convened the meeting by video conferencing.
As described by some source from BCCI, the newly appointed administrative panel barred Amitabh Chaudhary for attending the meeting. He said,” A senior selection committee meeting was already scheduled by the joint secretary in Delhi on January 31, to select the team against Bangladesh. But, Vinod Rai and Co have immediately swung in and barred him from doing anything. The CEO convened the meeting via video conference from Mumbai.”
The media person present at the meeting area also didn’t get the reason for the delay as when the officials went for lunch, one of the selectors, Sarandeep Singh was not present.
However, Sarandeep was seen entering the hotel and looked clueless about when the meeting will start. Around 4 pm, he went up and joined his colleagues as the meeting started.
Now this abrupt incident has proved that Amitabh Chaudhary probably is not authorised to function as joint secretary and might visit Dubai as BCCI representative only as he has a thorough background knowledge which might help the new member of the administration panel, investment banker Vikram Limaye, for future meetings.
