Finally, the selection meeting to pick the Indian squad for the upcoming series against England got clearance from the Lodha Panel after, unexpectedly, getting delayed for three hours. The meeting was scheduled at 1200 hours at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office in Mumbai.
The meeting commenced at 1500 hours with BCCI CEO Rahul Johri who was assigned by the Lodha Panel to convene the meeting.
The actual confusion was created due to lack of clarity as who can be selectors in the meeting after the Supreme Court expelled BCCI’s president nd secretary. Also, the Lodha reforms, which was asked by the apex court to implement immediately, makes two selectors out of five ineligible.
The BCCI is yet to accept all the recommendations of the Lodha panel and till then, it can adhere to its constitution which makes each selector and office bearer to hold to their posts.
On January 2, the Supreme Court came up with a crucial verdict which gave the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) a massive shock. The apex court suspended board president Lt. Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke from their respective posts for not implementing the reforms set by Lodha committee.
