In a shocking incident, England Cricket Team’s all-rounder Ben Stokes has been arrested by the police in Bristol on September 25. He was behind the bars for the entire night and was later released without any charges. His teammate Alex Hales was also with him and both have been suspended from the next England vs West Indies ODI which is scheduled to be played on September 27.
According to a report published in The Guardian, the incident happened after England defeated West Indies in the third ODI on September 24. The Somerset and Avon police confirmed that “a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and has since been released under investigation while inquiries continue”. The victim was taken to an infirmary for treatment after disorder in the Queens Road and Clifton Triangle area at 2.35am on Monday morning.
As per the reports, Stokes has also injured his hands during the incident. Both Stokes and Hakes didn’t attend team’s training session ahead of the fourth ODI at The Oval. Hales has reportedly returned to Bristol to help the police.
On the other hand, the England and Wales Cricket Board has released a statement and has confirmed their absence in the 4th ODI. As per the reports, the statement read,”Stokes was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning, 25 September, following an incident in Bristol. Hales, who was with Stokes on Sunday night, did not train this morning and has returned voluntarily to Bristol today to help police with their inquiries.”
It has been also learned that the replacement of these two players will be announced on Wednesday morning. The reports quoted England skipper Eoin Morgan as saying,”Two positions are up for grabs and we will think about that today and make a decision tomorrow morning. We feel we have a strong enough squad to be able to select from in order to fill that hole.”
In the last ODI against West Indies, Stoke played a phenomenal knock of 73 runs and built a 132-run partnership while batting with Joe Root. England beat West Indies by 124 runs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series, with one game abandoned.
