Ben Stokes to play for New Zealand’s domestic team after being dropped from Ashes 2017-18

It's official! Suspended English all-rounder, Ben Stokes has arrived in New Zealand and is all set to play the first match on December 2.

Suspended English all-rounder Ben Stokes has found a way to keep his game going. He has officially joined Canterbury cricket team in New Zealand as an overseas player. The team has confirmed the news of signing Stokes for the upcoming season.

According to a cricket.com.au report, the English all-rounder will play for the Canterbury in the inaugural match of their domestic one-day campaign against Otago at Rangiora on December 2.

Another report published in The Guardian stated that his deal of playing for Canterbury was agreed with The English Cricket Board and was sanctioned by New Zealand Cricket.

Happy to have secured one of the best players, Gary Stead, director of Canterbury Cricket Association (CCA), said,

While Ben awaits the outcome of an investigation underway in the UK, he wants to maintain his fitness and his connection with the game. He is a brilliant all round player and we are really pleased to have secured one of the world’s best players in our domestic competition.

The 26-year-old English cricketer was arrested on September 26 by the Bristol Police following a fight with two people outside a nightclub and punching one of them brutally. After this incident, Stokes was ruled out of the ODI series against West Indies and later suspended. He couldn’t play the recent Ashes series.

As far as the legal proceedings are concerned, Avon and Somerset Police announced that their investigation is completed and have passed Stokes’ file to prosecutors. ANow they will decide whether charges are brought. According to the reports, The police also confirmed a 27-year-old man suffered a fractured eye socket in the incident.

Stokes has been training indoors in Durham in recent weeks. A competitive match practice will help Stokes to get back on the cricket field.
