Brendon McCullum has retired from international cricket but the batsman has not lost his six-hitting skills. McCullum is still making headlines with his power shots in T20 leagues around the world. The former New Zealand cricketer is a big game player and that’s what he did for Rangpur Riders against Comilla Victorians in the qualifier of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2017.
McCullum came to bat in the 5th over when Chris Gayle got out after scoring just 3 runs from 10 balls. The pressure was clearly on McCullum as he needed to build a partnership with opener Johnson Charles who was hitting the ball well.
The Kiwi batsman was batting with a strike rate of 100 till the 14th over of the innings scoring 19 runs from 19 balls. Towards the end of the innings, McCullum shifted gears and took on the Victorians’ bowling lineup. He completed his half-century off just 33 balls in the 16th over.

In the next over, the wicketkeeper-batsman almost struck three sixes in a row in Al-Amin Hossain’s over. McCullum did not even spare Hasan Ali. Though he got out on the last ball of the 19th over as Hasan bowled a yorker to castle him. His innings featured 9 sixes and a single four. He shared a partnership of 151 runs with Charles who went on to score 105 runs from 63 balls, unbeaten.

Victorians were not up for the task of chasing a target of 193 in the qualifier as they lost the match by a margin of 36 runs. Rangpur Riders went on to qualify for the final of BPL 2017 against Dhaka Dynamites.
