India v Sri Lanka, ICC Champions Trophy 2017: Angelo Matthews will bat but won’t bowl!

India v Sri Lanka, ICC Champions Trophy 2017: Angelo Matthews, their captain and arguably their best batsman was sitting out due to an injury

Angelo Matthews did not play the first game for Sri Lanka and they lost against South Africa in their opener. Angelo Matthews, their captain and arguably their best batsman was sitting out due to an injury. But it seems he is ready and raring to go in a must-win against India tomorrow at the Oval, London. India are on the other hand comfortably placed as they defeated Pakistan in their opening game and another victory should see them seal their semis berth.

“The injury is much better now. I’m fully fit now. I won’t be bowling, but I’m fully fit to play as a batsman,” said the 30-year old effective all-rounder while speaking to ThePapare.com. “I could have probably played the last game, but there was a chance of risk, so the management and the selectors decided that I shouldn’t play,” he further added.

He is good with the ball as well in the death overs he has a good change of pace. With him not bowling will benefit the Indian batting as they would look to get a big score.

“It is a big loss, and there’s no excuses. You need to try and support the captain on the field. Rather than him planning to bowl the 50 overs in that time, the others have to look after that and the captain has to get on with the game and make decisions in the middle,” said the Sri Lankan skipper who is just 8 runs away from 4500 ODI runs.
