After kickstarting their ICC Champions Trophy 2017 journeys like a boss, both India and South Africa will now play to book their berths in the semi-finals. The one who loses today will be in deep trouble and have to pack their bags and return to their homeland. Despite having a good start, both the teams lost their 2nd game and today, it’s going to be a virtual quarter-final. Indian skipper Virat Kohli has already said they would treat this game as any other game while the South Africans would not like to be called the ‘chokers’ yet again. However, apart from the game and teamwork, there is another factor which can ruin the scenario and that is rain.
What happens if rain plays the spoilsport?
The eighth edition of ICC Champions Trophy has been affected by rain right from the beginning. The ‘Rain God’ has been the best ‘spoiler’ of this tournament as the games either got abandoned or the result was obtained after Duckworth-Lewis rule was implemented.
Now if today rain affects the game once again and abandons the game, one point each will be shared by both the teams. Currently, both have 2 points each and if the game gets cancelled, their total will be 3 points each.
Then who reaches to semi-finals from Group-B?
With 3 points each in their accounts, the team which will have the better and the higher run rate will enter the semi-finals.
The second semi-finalist will be decided after tomorrow’s clash between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The team who wins will directly enter the semis and if that game too gets affected by rain, the same procedure will be followed.
Whom did rain curse in this tournament?
The Australians turned out to be the most unfortunate ones as they couldn’t play their first two games due to rain stopping the match and the last one they lost against England and now, they are out of the tournament.
