Pakistan cricket team’s relation with the English language is just similar to their relations with India. They considered both English as well as the Indian cricket team as their arch-rivals. For them these two are their biggest threat on and off the field. Pakistan’s real test is not on the field but it starts after they win any match because they need to speak at length in the English language.
Recently, Pakistan’s current skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed’s biggest fear of speaking in English ‘caught on cam’ when he was about to start the post match press conference after their team thrashed Sri Lanka in Group B must-win encounter at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on June 12. Pakistan rode on skipper Sarfraz Ahmed’s unconquered 61 to recover from a middle-order collapse and pull off a three-wicket victory over the Lankans.
Soon after the match when skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed arrived at the press arena inside the stadium to address the press conference his words ‘Sarey English Waley Hain Kya’ was captured on the cam. This was not the first time he got trolled for his English language skills, there were several instance in past where he became a butt of jokes on the internet for showcasing his English skills.
Not only Sarfaraz Ahmed, in the past many Pakistani cricketers including their former skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq, Kamran Akmal and several others were trolled for their speaking English during the post match presentation ceremonies.
